Our Philosophy
Veterans Base Camp (VBC) is a Christian, non-denominational, faith-based organization that believes that human beings are three parts: body, soul and spirit. We believe in the strength and resiliency of our warriors and first responders. These men and women offer their service, their very lives to "serve and protect" our country and its allies. The Bible says that "Greater love has no man or woman than this, that they lay down their life for a friend." While many people may choose to "serve" others in some capacity, few are willing to risk their lives and their future dreams to do so. Our warriors and first responders did and do so. VBC believes that we need to be here to fight for and support each one of them as they struggle to carry the heavy weight of the burden that comes from being a warrior and protector and to find their way back home.
Many veterans and first responders struggle with how to carry that burden. They struggle with how to feel connected to friends, family and a society that has no idea of what they have seen, lost or done. They now struggle with how to function day-to-day carrying memories after being in “survival mode”for so long, where feelings and emotions are shut down so they can think, act and react in order to survive, serve and protect. For those veterans and responders who have belief/faith in God or other Higher Power, they often struggle with how to reconcile all they have seen and experienced with their faith in God. Many may wonder if there even is a God after all they have seen and experienced. Some may have questions they are afraid to ask and don't know where to go to get answers. VBC offers pastoral and clinical counseling to help veterans, first responders and their families to work through those questions.
VBC weaves together a unique program that utilizes a strength-based perspective framework We incorporate person-centered planning to help the veteran/first responder identify their goals, focus on their strengths, desires, unique abilities/talents and resources to achieve those goals. Through the R.E.S.E.T, REBOOT Combat/Trauma Recovery Programs, Peer-to-peer and Pastoral counseling, VBC offers support to veterans, first responders and their families as they work through these areas. As the vet begins to work through their plan, they have the choice to become a part of the VBC Team to use their skills to help create an ever-changing and relevant veteran-first responder/community outreach program to other veterans in need. Through participation in this program, veterans/first responders become a creative force in the development of VBC's mission of outreach, support and service to help other veterans and the vulnerable in our communities.
